Dr. Timothy McNamee, district superintendent, said extra counselors and security have been brought in to the district after 11-year-old Jordan Anthony Brown — a fifth-grader — was charged with homicide in Friday’s shooting death of Kenzie Houk. Houk was the girlfriend of Jordan’s father, Christopher Brown. She was nine months pregnant at the time of the shooting and the boy is also facing homicide charges in the death of the unborn child. Jordan, who was arrested early Saturday, remains in the Lawrence County jail, charged as an adult in the case, as required by state law. According to McNamee, the procedures implemented by the district are designed to make students, staff and parents feel safe, and to ensure the educational process continues. A district press release specifically asks that members of the news media refrain from attempting to interview students at bus stops, playgrounds, etc.
